This book has first been published in the original French in 1976 (re-published in 2003, Mirail, 9782858166657) and has been awarded the Prix Broquette-Gonin of the Academie Francaise. The English translation was made in close cooperation with the author before his premature death in 1993, which stopped any publication process. With a short introduction by the author.
