Alexei Jawlensky (1864-1941) war Russe, lebte aber die meiste Zeit seines Lebens in Deutschland und erhielt 1934 die deutsche Staatsbürgerschaft. Er war ein Freund Wassily Kandinskys, den er in München beim Kunststudium kennenlernte, als sie Malerei bei Anton Azbè studierten.
