In 2004 the young train enthusiast, Søren Jakobsen, acquired his first camera and began to capture images of special trains and train journeys in Denmark and the rest of Europe. Over the years, Søren Jakobsen has developed his pictorial style to include a sound sense of composition. The seasons, the weather and lighting conditions are included as actors in the photographs.

The pictures in the book are a declaration of love for the European railway history and show examples of many of the different types of locomotives that have pulled countless trains, freight and people through time. Many of the book’s pictures were taken at dusk or dawn, others were taken at European railway stations - often after dark.
