Population and Society brings together twenty-six classic and contemporary published works that are considered to be foundational reading for the study of human population and society.

The book is divided into ten sections with concise introductory overviews by the editor, Frank Trovato. Section one examines the foundational principles of demography and its nature as a multidisciplinary field. Section two addresses the relationship between individual action and demographic phenomena.
