Operative skills are crucial to the trainee in O&G. Sir William Blair-Bell, one of the founders of the RCOG, declared that an obstetrician and gynaecologist should be "firstly, a good surgeon; then, an inspirational teacher and lastly, contribute to advances in the field". Unfortunately, the implementation of structured training and EWTD, together with the fear of litigation and reduction of elective lists, have all contributed to a decrease in available training time. Conventional textbooks, while good at imparting theoretical knowledge, are often inadequate at explaining practical procedures. This digital package provides simple easy to follow videos showing 20 index operative procedures that are crucial for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainee to be able to perform safely and competently. Each video is narrated by an experienced NHS consultant, who includes vignettes and personal experiences which add to the learning opportunity. The videos, hosted on a companion website, will be accompanied by a book with corresponding chapters (with video stills and illustrations) written in an instructional but concise style.
