This new volume in the 21st Century Oxford Authors series presents Emily Brontë's work, including Wuthering Heights and her poetry, as it was first known to the reading public.
The Brother is an unflinching portrayal of brutal provincial patriarchy. It tells the story of three sisters trapped on their remote, deteriorating family estate and their brother, a corrupt St Petersburg official who schemes to take their inheritances.
This volume explores the conceptual distinction between author and narrator in classical literature, arguing that ancient narrative is better understood through the lens of authorship rather than narratology.
