Arista Jones, an American in her late twenties, works at a vocational college in Illinois. When she joins a teacher exchange program, she is unexpectedly paired with Sofie van der Meulen from the Netherlands—although it wasn’t her first choice. When Sofie arrives in the United States, the two women quickly form a friendship. Despite their differences, Arista begins to see the world through Sofie’s eyes and is inspired to look beyond her familiar life. After four weeks, Sofie returns home, and Arista travels to the Netherlands, where she discovers new places and perspectives that begin to change her life.
